Together, they’re combining two different fields of work into one, ethereal collection.
Cody Hoyt is best known for his unique process-based method of work, which results in mesmerizing studies of pattern, color, material and now, non-traditional clay vessels. To create his collection, kinder MODERN translated Cody’s work into off-geometric rugs that become artwork that lay under your feet. Despite using a whole new canvas for his work, the rugs still manage to display and enhance the captivating visuals of Cody’s work. Marbled, striated patterns are reminiscent of nature’s topography, while other patterns mimic the waves of an animal’s coat. All rugs are made from hand-tufted New Zealand wool. Artists and designers from around the world created unique, domestic-themed goods that create a semi-urban domestic space.

Circus Lights consists of a system of interconnected rings, much like a circus contortionist’s rings, where each brass ring illuminates in a 360 degree plane. Bloom Pendant is a lighting collection designed in partnership with Tim Rundle. Inspired by paper lanterns, each pendant has a mesh core and frosted blown glass, resulting in a warm ambient glow. The Offset Coffee Table and Stool / Side Table by Philippe Malouin (also pictured with the Bloom Pendant above) features a block of solid oak in an unexpected, irregular shape. Each leg connects to the table with a threaded connector, meaning each leg has its own individualistic position.

Inspired by how when viewing art that has space around it, another dimension is created that can feel a bit like meditation, which led Rosa to create Micro Matter.
Micro Matter consists of multiple upside down glass test tubes, each with its own miniature world. Whether they’re houses, skyscrapers, or even campsites, each sculpture inspired the next one. Each one is completely unique—there is nothing like it. They are meant to take you from one world to another, to incur your imagination and create a little haven for you, cut off from the outside word.

Enter Viride, a collection of three different types of luminaries that are designed to fit specific plants’ morphologies. They are sculptural design objects that act as planters, while also giving off light from its LED panels to ensure the plant gets the right amount of

Minimalist Artwork Reflecting On The Human Condition

Minimalist Artwork Reflecting On The Human Condition

Artist Davide Balliano recently had his first exhibition at the Tina Kim Gallery in New York, where his minimalist artwork examined humanity’s relationship to the universe.

UNTITLED, 2016. Plaster, gesso & lacquer on wood. 80 x 64 inches

UNTITLED, 2016. Plaster, gesso & lacquer on wood. 72 x 56 inches

The exhibit consisted of Davide’s large scale paintings, that were created specifically for the installation. Davide looks at the universe and the cosmos and reduces them to geometric morphemes, which he then turns into art. Using the arch figure as structural framework for his art, it represents humanity’s need to build shelters, which has advanced to something much more complex than it was years go. However, if you strip away the many layers, like time, everything is reduced to the same core shape.

The Architectural Digest Design Show Celebrates GIRL POWER at MADE

The Architectural Digest Design Show Celebrates GIRL POWER at MADE

It’s Women’s National History Month, and we are so excited to see how the design world is celebrating women. One of our favorites is MADE at the Architectural Digest Design Show, where the theme for this year is GIRL POWER. MADE is a juried section at the show where emerging and returning designers showcase their handcrafted and limited edition or one-of-a-kind furnishings, accessories and fine art pieces. Here are 12 women makers that we’re especially excited about.

Alexandra Kohl designs luminous fiber art made from cotton and horsehair. As an avid equestrian and horse trainer, she shows her deep love and admiration of horses by creating unique minimalist works of art that are beautiful and textural.

Bolé Road Textiles, the brainchild of Hana Getachew, will be launching her first line of rugs at MADE, as well as showcasing her new spring collection. She creates textiles with vibrant colors and graphic patterns—which

Alex Proba Responded to an Invocation with A Poster A Day

Artist Alex Proba started a daily project back in 2013, Mine Yours Ours Hers, based on calls from strangers around the world. These invocations spanned a wide range of topics—from happiness, sadness, loss, and much more. She began her A Poster A Day project by visually interpreting and responding to it each one with a custom poster. She did this for more than a year. In fact it was close to four years, where she answered 1460 questions with 1460 posters.

The four years were divided into different parts, which explains the name of the project. The first year, Mine, was about her life. The second year, Yours, was about your life. The third year, Ours, was about our life, and the fourth year, Hers, was about the lives of inspirational women.

The show will have each poster in 5×7 prints, and cover the whole gallery. They will all be available

They designed Bloop, a distinctive coffee table, and the Neva chairs, designed with the same principle philosophies.
Bloop has a unique shape that’s unlike other coffee tables. It has soft, rounded edges, yet a sculptural shape. It has only one vertical element, the single leg between the tabletop and the base. As a result, the top seems as if its floating on just one single leg. It comes in six different types of wood and natural finishes. The Neva Light Chair and Lounge collection comes in solid wood or upholstered fabric, with a similar curvy shape inspired by the Bloop. It has a fluid shape that expands from the backrest to the front legs. It is both ergonomic, while also creating a tactile experience for the

They are not only focused on creating beautiful products, but also ensuring that each rug they create supports their company and personal ethos. Their handcrafted rugs utilize traditional weaving techniques that are built to withstand the test of time. These rugs not only keep your home warm, but <del>behind</del> under each rug is a story—a story about the local craftsmen that have been weaving for generations and the children that benefit from Fair Trade practices. We recently chatted with Jodie Fried, one of the co-founders, to learn more about how she combined a passion for design with social purpose to create Armadillo&Co.

This Is Fur Real: Say Hello To Singapore’s First-Ever Cat Furniture Design Show

                                                <a href="http://design-milk.com/this-is-fur-real-say-hello-to-singapores-first-ever-cat-furniture-design-show/9lives-catfurniture-9/" data-wpel-link="internal"><img src="http://3.design-milk.com/images/2017/02/9Lives-CatFurniture-9-810x540.jpg" alt="This Is Fur Real: Say Hello To Singapore’s First-Ever Cat Furniture Design Show" /></a>
We are not kitten you. Singapore will be hosting their first, cat-themed furniture design show during Singapore Design Week (SDW). Appropriately named <a href="http://www.9livesdesignshow.com/" data-wpel-link="external" rel="external noopener noreferrer">9 Lives</a>, this exhibition is full of practical and aesthetically pleasing furniture for indoor cats.
Tan Chin Chin, the artist and entrepreneur behind 9 Lives, aims to inspire locals to think about how good design can benefit living conditions for cats and their owners alike, especially in crowded cities like Singapore. “As more Singaporeans adopt street cats and integrate them into their households, there is a growing demand for quality cat furniture.” The furniture focuses on creating efficient furniture for small space living, as well as creating an open dialogue for cat owners and potential cat owners. A part of the proceeds will go towards Cat Welfare Society.

It was only a matter of time before coffee and bicycles converged in one, trendy LA space. “We want to take two things that are typically very intimidating - bicycles and coffee - and make them approachable and fun,” describes Chase Spenst. He and his wife, Tami Spenst, are the husband and wife team behind <a href="http://www.thewheelhouse.bike/" data-wpel-link="external" rel="external noopener noreferrer">The Wheelhouse</a>, a full service bicycle shop and barista-led coffee shop in Los Angeles’ Arts district.
Design was at the forefront of this space. With the aim to bring people together, The Wheelhouse built a coffee bar that was completely customized, with sleek black facades and steel countertops. The coffee part of the shop features top-of-the-line equipment and includes a food program during weekend and evening hours. The design also centers around preserving the original, industrial space. The exposed beam and concrete are warmed up with rich leathers and vintage elements, creating a layered,
