7 Minimalist Sneakers to Maximize Your Wardrobe

                                                <a href="" data-wpel-link="internal"><img src="" alt="7 Minimalist Sneakers to Maximize Your Wardrobe" /></a>
I love fancy footworks as much as the next person and believe that a great outfit can be ruined (or at the very least, go undocumented) with a bad choice in shoes (nothing a little photo-cropping can’t fix to salvage that photo though). However, when it comes to sneakers, I hail from the “less is more” camp, even while ‘Dad shoes’ and retro ‘sneaks are making a comeback. Simple, minimalist sneakers just have a soft spot in my heart, especially when they’re well-made and classically designed with modern elements. I’m also more inclined to hand over $200 when I think about how many outfits can go with a minimalist sneaker over a maximalist one.
If you’re in the market for a pair of fresh new kicks, here are 7 current favorites that our Tech Editor Gregory and I rounded up to help with your window shopping.

Noting the gap in talent, the outcome of Wednesday night&#8217;s game between the Los Angeles Lakers and Oklahoma City Thunder seemed like a foregone conclusion. But amongst sneakerheads there was another reason to tune into the game: whether reigning NBA league MVP Russell Westbrook would be playing in his newly designed signature shoes for the <a href="" data-wpel-link="external" rel="external noopener noreferrer">Nike Jordan Brand</a>.
Though OKC would indeed blowout the Lakers, the game did deliver on the new sneaker front, with Russell Westbrook playing three quarters donning his new Jordan Why Not Zer0.1 Mirror Image. Named in reflection and comparison between Michael Jordan’s (in)famous resolute intensity of yesteryear alongside the dogged breakneck effort of Westbrook’s play today, the top expanse of the Mirror Image is embellished – from its heel counter to vamp to toe tip – in service of its namesake with a collage of cutout imagery of both players executed in nostalgic Mars

A Brown Paper Bag Inspired the Design of the NIKELAB ACG 07 KMTR

Sneaker designers have oft been quoted finding inspiration in form and function from the realms of the architectural, automotive, fashion, and nature itself. Yet it is the humble brown paper bag that helped shape the functional fit and transformation of the upcoming <a href="" rel="noopener noreferrer external" data-wpel-link="external">NIKELAB ACG 07 KMTR</a>, an &#8220;All Conditions Gear&#8221; urban commuter sneaker that opens and closes with just a pull of an integrated draw cord.
Sharing elements with the adjustable strap NikeLab Air Sock Racer Ultra Flyknit and fold-over design of the NikeLab Free RN Motion Flyknit, the latest NikeLab creation is a collaborative effort between Nike and the technically-driven fashion brand ACRONYM, with founder Errolson Hugh putting some signature details that make these ACG models a notable standout.

The NIKELAB ACG 07 KMTR’s profile combines a closure system with a bag-like upper form designed to unfurl and close with a pull of drawstring cord, further enhanced aesthetically and functionally

The Essential Travel Shoe: Allbirds Wool Loungers

<em>The following post is brought to you by <a href="" rel="nofollow external noopener noreferrer" data-wpel-link="external" >Allbirds</a>. Our partners are hand picked by the Design Milk team because they represent the best in design.</em>

As I travel more and more, traveling light and efficiently have become my main priority. Gone are those days of lugging giant suitcases filled to the brim with clothes that are never worn. Instead, I’ll now go to Europe on a ten-day excursion with just a carry-on and my backpack.
However, that does mean one thing—I can no longer bring excess clothing or multiple pairs of shoes for those “just in case” situations. You  know—one ‘stylish’ pair, one everyday pair, one pair for in case my everyday pair starts to hurt my feet, and one more just for fun. Like furniture, I need shoes that combine form and function—all day comfort, and can be worn from daytime sightseeing to nighttime bar hopping. I have multiple

Adidas Futurecraft 4D is the 3D Printed Sneaker Revolution Realized

Adidas has made their intentions evident <a href="" data-wpel-link="internal">for some time</a>, previewing evolutionary iterations of 3D printed midsoles as the foundation of next generation athletic footwear. But until now their plans have been hampered by the foe of any innovation: scale. Thanks to a technical and manufacturing process called Digital Light Synthesis, the <a href="" data-wpel-link="external" rel="external noopener noreferrer">adidas Futurecraft 4D</a> is to become the harbinger of 3D printed midsole sneakers for the masses.
Adidas worked with Silicon Valley contiguous 3D printing technology specialists, Carbon, to utilize a manufacturing that forgoes traditional prototyping and moulding for a 3D printing process using digital light projection, oxygen-permeable optics, and programmable liquid polymer resin to generate high performance, durable polymeric products quickly – ideal for midsole manufacturing on a scale previously unrealizable. The manufacturing process is quite mesmerizing. The resulting latticed structure midsole structure is even more pliable and flexible than previous Futurecraft models, designed to accommodate the needs of athletic

The UA ArchiTech Futurist Floats Atop 3D Printed Midsoles

Get used to seeing &#8220;3D printed midsoles&#8221; as an increasingly advertised feature accompanying the announcement of new sneakers. Joining the likes of <a href="" data-wpel-link="internal">adidas</a> and <a href="" data-wpel-link="internal">New Balance</a>, both who&#8217;ve ventured into developing proprietary adaptive 3D printed midsoles, Under Armor recently unveiled the <a href=";" data-wpel-link="external" rel="external noopener noreferrer">UA ArchiTech Futurist</a> – a limited edition 3D printed sneaker designed for the Crossfit demographic.
The ArchiTech Futurist is the evolutionary progeny of Under Armour’s UA Architech, a shoe concept that won the Advanced Concepts Technical Competition at last year’s AMUG Conference. Sporting a similar interlocking lattice structure as its predecessor, the ArchiTech Futurist TPU midsoles are also made possible using selective laser sintering (SLS), resulting in the characteristic lattice work. The 3D printed heel section is purported to return energy with every press toward the heel, catering to weight lifting exercises of Crossfitters.

The proprietary 3D heel structure was formulated by Lehmann & Voss & Co., a chemical engineering company specializing in

The Y-A FUYU HIGH Concept Hybrid Sneaker

The Y-A FUYU HIGH Concept Hybrid Sneaker

One look at David Olivares’ concept Y-A FUYU HIGH sneaker design and it’s impossible not to imagine the Hoth base cold assault stormtroopers in The Empire Strikes Back, giant mechanized robots from anime, the profile of the adidas Kobe Bryant shoes circa 2000, and hardware usually found securing skiers onto their skis. Whether any of these references played a part in shaping this multi-layered futuristic boot-sneaker is unknown, but we like the exploratory results.

Olivares conceived his weatherproof mechanized sneaker design as a knowing nod to the urban high fashion aesthetics of Yohji Yamamoto’s adidas Y-3 label and Germany’s techwear imprint, ACRONYM. The multi-layered sneaker is accessorized with functional straps, zippers, and locking closures, in sum creating a futuristic profile communicating fashion accompanied with technical functionality.

The Y-A FUYU HIGH was designed as an entrant for the sneaker design competition, the PENSOLE World Sneaker Championship, designed, modeled, and rendered completely in Autodesk Fusion 360.

It&#8217;s definitely getting chillier with every passing day, which means we&#8217;re wearing bulkier and weather-proof footwear when required. But that doesn&#8217;t mean we&#8217;re sleeping on more comfortable kicks – our daily wear – like these 8 current favorites, each picked for their stylish profiles and comfortable fit.

Hardcraft made 100 of these grey colorway versions, but they’re already all accounted for.

The handsome and understated style should dress especially well with dark denim, constructed with full grain leather and a supple calf leather lining, all made in Portugal. They’re only making 100 of these kicks in this sand colorway (grey has already sold out), with only sizes 10 and 12 currently still in stock, so we’d advise being decisive.
