I’m in the midst of updating my home but can I just say, the paralysis from the sheer amount of options to be made is real. There’s also an overwhelming abundance of inspiration out there that I’m finding it hard to go down the path of a specific interior design style when lots of different styles appeal to me. In other words, mo’ options, mo’ problems.

GAN Partners with Neri&Hu on a New Sofa Typology

GAN recently enlisted the talents of design studio Neri&Hu, who designed a collection of seating modules, rugs, and dividers. The collection, called LAN, challenges the idea of what we normally think of in a sofa by breaking it down into modules that can fit together in various ways.
LAN also sets itself apart with an indigo color palette, which inspired its name as ‘lan’ means blue in Mandarin. The rug is an important part of their LAN equation and the perfect spot to organize the pieces around. The seating modules rest close to the floor and can be changed up by adding different cushions and a tray to hold a drink. Dividers are designed to visually separate a space or to hang out behind the seating modules as a backdrop.

All four new rugs were designed by Central Saint Martin’s graduate and in-house designer Maja Johansson Starander. The first, Freyja, is hand tufted with a chunky wool which is felted and twisted into its final curly form. “Freyja is a textile interpretation of moss and lichen, of stone, soil and mineral,” says a statement from the brand. The tufted loops are left uncut at different heights to create an uneven surface,

New York City based designer Joe Doucet partnered for the second time with Odabashian on a collection of handcrafted rugs that he designed in support of the Transgender community. The Transcendence rug series came about as a response to the ongoing challenges faced by transgender people who are bravely living their truth in a society that often shuns them with the hope that we can rise above and move forward with open minds. The bold, four-piece collection aims to be an example that design can transcend and be used for good. In a measure to show just that, they’re donating a portion of the sales proceeds to the ACLU.

The uniting theme of the series became Transcendence. I wanted to capture the beauty of outwardly becoming what you are internally. The four rugs each attempt to convey

Upon their return to Brooklyn, the duo continually revisited their dreamy, adventurous memories whenever things got tough, which eventually led to their latest collection of rugs, entitled Take Me Back to Formentera. She was born in Ludhiana, a city known for its hosiery mills and industry, where her family still runs a textiles business originally established by her great-grandfather. “From a really young age I was surrounded by beautiful fabrics, embroideries, and prints,” she says. “I remember going on buying trips with my dad and helping him choose stock for the showroom and feeling quite pleased that I had made a small contribution and my opinion had counted.” Despite this early start, it was by no means a foregone

What is the most important thing to know about you? That I’m not only a designer but also an artist. My two creative worlds run parallel to each other and cross over. I wouldn’t really consider myself a designer or an artist, it is more a creative process. Your grandfather is Jørn Utzon, the Danish architect responsible for the Sydney Opera House. Your mother is Lin Utzon, an eminent Danish artist, and your father is the acclaimed Australian architect, Alex Popov. Tell me about the influence

Carpet Sign acquired a 3D machine earlier this year which has enabled the company to expand their possibilities, including Rashid’s 3D collection. Furniture Inspired by Traditional Romanian and Moldovian Craftsmanship

Designers Mihai Stamati and Maria Bubuioc collaborated on a project called Quintessence, which consists of series of furniture inspired by traditional Romanian and Moldovian craftsmanship. The duo explored natural materials from their home countries (Romania and Moldova) and how they were used in hopes of supporting local manufacturers and creating new, sustainable products that have a story.
The local craftsman they’re working with utilize skills passed down through their families, generation to generation, and by doing so, they’re keeping the traditional techniques alive while helping those families continue to earn a living. The collection focuses on using textiles, like linen, hemp yarn, manually woven hemp textiles, reed, and feathers, that could be paired with wooden structures. The result is a beautiful collection of goods with a feel-good story behind how they came to be.
