The Douwes Pendant&Socket is designed to offer light and electricity over a kitchen table or desk while proving that sockets don’t have to be unattractive. Designed by Studio Lotte Douwes for Menu, the pair (available separately as the Pendant Lamp and Socket) is crafted from sustainably-produced, light grey porcelain that’s minimalist and neutral enough to work in just about any setting that’s in need of overhead light and/or a convenient place to plug-in. With the popularity of open workspaces these days, they’d work great hung above a long co-working table alternating between the two to provide both light and a place to charge laptops. With freestanding desks and even kitchen tables, outlets aren’t readily available making it hard to plug things in. The Douwes Socket brings an attractive flexibility that helps to enhance your work or personal life with additional freedom.

Last year Mexican design brand Studio davidpompa released the Ambra collection of lighting that included a table lamp and wall lamp made of cantera rose and copper. Now, they’ve unveiled the latest member of the family – the Ambra pendant – which continues the exploration of contrasting materials and proportions.
The pendant boasts an elegant geometrical silhouette with two cylindrical forms made from dusty pink cantera rosa, a volcanic rock made up of volcanic ash and dust, that rests at the end of a brushed copper cylinder. Hanging alone or in a configuration of multiples, the pendant makes for a striking sculptural light.

Suprematic Lighting and Vase Collection by NOOM

Paying homage to Kiev-born artist and founder of the Suprematism art movement Kazimir Malevich, Ukrainian design studio NOOM created a geometric collection of lighting and vases called Suprematic. Designers Kateryna Sokolova and Arkady Vartanov both live and work in Malevich’s hometown of Kiev making his art a natural source of inspiration. When designing their first collection, the pair incorporated copper and painted steel, geometric-shaped components that join together to form sculptural structures.
The geometric components in the vases are not only decorative, they help divide and hold the flowers in place for unique arrangement. Even with no flowers, the vases are art objects on display until they’re filled with flowers again. The Suprematic collection recently debuted at Maison&Objet.

The new range unites solid brass that’s been sand casted and polished with mouth-blown matte borosilicate glass to create two configurations, a ceiling light and a tabletop touch lamp.
The Basalt Ceiling Light consists of a trio of angular brass pendants that can seamlessly join with multiple units to create a custom lighting installation. The Basalt Touch Lamp provides a tactile experience with a three-step touch dimming control integrated into the brass body.

The Crystal Twist collection of lighting is composed of HI-MACS acrylic stone that looks as if it’s popped open like a refrigerated can of dough.
Watch the process: The HI-MACS material is typically used for sleek surfaces, like countertops, but Wubben chose to use it to make lamps with a raw, organic quality. While working on the design he discovered that the material could be torn apart when it was heated. He created a tool that helped tear off the edges of the strips of acrylic stone and then wrapped the warm stone around a mold to create the spiral. To create the lamp, he layered the twisted stone so light would emit through the cracks and highlight the

Much like Noguchi’s Akari collection, the Poise lamps transform from flat paper to three-dimensional objects through folding techniques used on basic paper bags. Each light is composed of paper, lead, cord, and stainless steel, with black geometric shades that emit soft directional light similar to those in a photography studio. The finished fixtures, which include a pendant, floor lamp, and table lamp, can easily be described as functional works of art, something that often describes Noguchi’s work.
Bergne created the lamps for the Akari Unfolded: A Collection by YMER&MALTA exhibition, which includes 26 lamps made in collaboration with six designers. The entire collection is on display until January 27, 2019 at The Noguchi Museum in Long Island City, New York.

Products made from concrete can sometimes end up looking clunky and unrefined as it’s often difficult to get the material to work on a more delicate design. Dror Kaspi, the designer behind ARDOMA Design, has a history of pushing the boundaries when it comes to what concrete can do and his latest is no exception. HELIA is a pendant and table light with a unique, mesh-like structure that mimics woven concrete, which was inspired by the mesmerizing sunflower seed pattern of Fibonacci spirals.

Inspiration

The bi-directional spirals of the seed pattern became a challenge to figure out how to make concrete replicate its delicate nature. They developed a special concrete mixture along with new method of casting to achieve the finished results which allow light to escape through its small perforations. At first glance it’s hard to images the pendants are concrete, right? HELIA comes in light grey, dark

The flexible pendant has the same idea allowing you to move the components around for endless lighting possibilities. If a single Trapeze isn’t enough, they’ve designed a system that allows you to connect multiple pendents for a larger fixture.
The half domed fixture allows each side to rotate 360 degrees around giving the option of only uplight, only downlight, half up and half down, and everything in between. Not only does it change how the light is cast, it changes the look of the fixture.

The collection, which includes a pendant and two sconces, was inspired by the twice yearly equinox where every place on earth gets to experience approximately equal amounts of day and night (i.e. 12 hours of daylight and 12 hours of nighttime).
The circular fixtures mimic that perfect alignment by balancing light and dark through soft glowing light and bold shadows. The Equinox Pendant and the Equinox Sconce with Glass both feature rolled glass front plates that reference the surface of the moon, while the Equinox Sconce with Metal swaps the glass out for powder coated steel discs.

Designed by Omer Arbel, the piece is made when white glass is poured into a copper mesh basket that’s then dipped into hot clear glass. Air is blown to help push the white glass through the holes of the mesh so that it’s suspended within the glass. The result is a one-of-a-kind piece where the mesh has moved and folded differently as the molten glass moves through and around it.
Another result of the handmade production process is the slight variations of the exterior shape, which helps give each pendant their own look. The undulating exterior of the glass magnifies the suspended mesh inside creating beautiful visuals as only glass does. 84 is available in various configurations and comes outfitted with an LED bulb that

Los Angeles-based Brendan Ravenhill Studio expands their lighting collection with a new pendant that’s inspired by Japanese fishing floats and rip tides pulling lobster buoys under water. Float merges clear and sandblasted glass with rope and leather to form a unique pendant that can be hung as single, double, or triple clusters. Float consists of cylinders of borosilicate glass that are joined together to form internal and external shades. The exterior shell gets sandblasted in the center before fading to clear glass at the ends where it’s fused with the internal optic. The pendants are finished with cloth covered electrical cords and knotted rope, which allows you to adjust the angle that the pendant is suspended by moving it along the cloth cord. Brass and leather ceiling hardware are included allowing the fixtures to swing out to a broader location on the ceiling.

Articolo explores the art of light through handcrafted, artisanal lighting pieces, and debuted its collection for the first time in the United States this past May. The collection and designs are created by founder Nicci Green, who goes to say, “When something is made by hand, you can feel the soul that went into it.”
Float, the newest addition to the collection, is reminiscent of Hollywood glamour with its sleek and elongated proportions. The striking colored glass and sweeping brass stem reflect a sense of luxurious refinement, while its simplicity of form adds a modern touch to the design. The contrast between classic and contemporary produces a graceful grandeur. When lit, the shade casts a soft glowing light due to its lengthy form, which melts away with the surrounding walls. The shades are removable for easy cleaning, and are available in two
