The lamp isn’t overly done, instead evoking a more organic and calm feel.
A cylinder base provides the LED light source as well as the place for the dramatic reflector to rest on, which allows for adjustment to direct the reflected light where you want it. Serena is available in aluminum, black nickel, and copper finishes with a black base.

10 Modern Rocking Chairs That Could Work in Any Room

Sitting down is great and all but the rhythmic flow of a rocking chair gently moving your body back and forth is the ultimate in relaxation. But when you think of rocking chairs, your mind might go back to your grandmother’s chair made of hard wood with a back that sits up straight. Luckily modern times have brought forth contemporary designs that are not only relaxing, they look great in just about any room. Take a look at 10 of our favorites.

10 Cozy Modern Armchairs

More than likely, most of us grew up with that one cozy chair in our house – you know, the one everyone fought to sit in. Chances are, that chair is long gone but it doesn’t mean you can’t find a new one to take its place. We searched around to find ten cozy, modern armchairs, from CB2 to Knoll, that are worthy of being called our very favorite chair.

I once had a dream that I lived inside a modern art gallery which is essentially what the Room Mate Giulia Hotel in Milan is, except you don’t find yourself in a college dorm when you wake up. When Room Mate employed designer Patricia Urquiola to dress up the interiors, she took the complete creative freedom to design a different kind of hotel experience. While the hotel is only steps away from the Piazza del Duomo and the Vittorio Emanuele gallery, you don’t need to step outside your room to experience a taste of Milanese culture; it’s right inside.

While bringing forth this minimalist collection, which has traces of Art Deco, Urquiola pays respect to the company’s legacy with a focus on cylindrical shapes, a common silhouette in their 1950s and 1960s designs. Along with the cylinder forms, each piece features ribbed details, which were first shown in the 1939 Bernadotte cutlery pattern.
The collection is made up of five pitchers, three bowls, two vases, two candleholders, and a tray, with mirror polished stainless steel surfaces that are paired with stainless steel ribbing, and on a few of the pieces, a rose gold-colored PVD finish. Milan 2016: Stained Glass Furniture Collection by Patricia Urquiola

Credenza Collection by Patricia Urquiola

The Credenza collection includes cabinets and rugs, designed by Milan’s Patricia Uruiola and Federico Pepe

Product designer Patricia Urquiola and graphic designer Federico Pepe have collaborated on a highly decorative collection of modern furniture and rugs for the Milan-based brand Spazio Pontaccio. The Credenza collection—a suite of cupboards, screens, low tables, and carpets—is making its debut at this year’s Salone del mobile in Milan, and is making waves for its contemporary interpretation of stained glass. By leveraging the handiwork of skilled Italian artisans, the ancient technique is given a vivid graphic remake, thanks to vibrant abstract patterns and geometric shapes that define the furniture as art pieces as much as functional objects. The inspiration for the Credenza collection (‘Credenza, which in Italian means both a cupboard and one’s belief.’) was, in part, the stained glass window of the Cologne Cathedral, designed by artist Gerhard Richter in 2007. Richter’s project, 2 years in the making, yielded a dazzling arched window mosaic of more than

The capsule collection, Credenza, combines Urquiola’s modern design sense with Pepe’s graphic skills by utilizing stained glass in a fresh, modern way.
Credenza-Patricia-Urquiola-Federico-Pepe-Spazio-Pontaccio-2 Inspired by stained glass windows found at holy sites, like the ones designed by Gerhard Richter for Cologne’s Cathedral, the colorful series came together when the designers were invited to find common ground with the sacred inspiration and modern design. Using contemporary, graphic patterns and playful colors, the pieces were produced by highly skilled Italian artisans that still use the thousand-year old manual technique.
