Toru first caught our eye in 2017 at WantedDesign and since then the Barcelona-based designer has expanded his collection of seating that uses vegetable-tanned leather in experimental ways. Leather is typically used to upholster pieces of furniture but Toru uses the material itself for backrests and seats on chairs and stools. Each piece is handmade by local craftsman using the highest quality of leather that’s tanned with chestnut, mimosa, and quebracho extracts, which helps keep the original raw look and color of the material.

The Clop lounge chair features three legs and a folded leather back that was inspired by the simplicity of a clog shoe – half wood and half leather. The Clop table chair is much like the

Fresh Egg Pasta Inspired Damian Williamson’s Ovo Chair for Erik Jørgensen

There’s something poetic happening when you see a chef making fresh pasta, rolling out sheets of dough to be cut into strips for your favorite dish. British designer Damian Williamson shares a similar sentiment. He decided to translate this nonchalant expression, when fresh egg pasta is draped over an extra-large wooden rolling pin, into an easy chair and designed the leather Ovo for Erik Jørgensen (the name is derived from the Italian word uovo which means egg).
The Ovo’s fluid design is due to the upholstery of the backrest and armrest that have been folded in the same way pasta is. The squared steel frame that holds up the chair shows off the chair’s soft curvature, similar to the fluid perimeter of pasta. The same steel frame is used to connect the back and front of the chair, continuing the playful integration between leather and steel.

Carl Hansen & Søn is taking it way back for one of their latest releases as they launch an indoor/outdoor furniture collection by Bodil Kjær. The Danish architect and professor designed the collection in 1959 and almost six decades later the classic series looks as if it could have been designed yesterday. Indoor-Outdoor boasts an architectural feel with clean lines and a focus on comfort for sitting or lounging.
Kjær’s goal was to design a line of furniture that felt like a natural extension of the architecture surrounding it, paying careful attention to scale so it felt balanced. She also placed importance on designing the furniture so that it would last in the outdoors through rain, wind, sun, and snow. Indoor-Outdoor comes in solid teak that will age beautifully and it requires very little maintenance. The collection includes a dining chair, lounge chair, two-seater lounge sofa, swing sofa, a sunbed,

When creating the Cottage Collection, Ramón Esteve Estudio imagined the American West with farms and ranches where oversized lounge chairs would mostly likely be found. The series, designed for Talenti, references that same relaxing countryside vibe but with a contemporary spin.
The pieces in the collection combine materials like aluminum and plastic with the more traditional rope with the aim to find a place in the user’s memories, as if it had always been there. The Cottage Collection includes a Living Armchair, Lounge Armchair, Pour, Sofa, Sunbed, Side Table, and two Coffee Tables, available in a variety of finishes and fabrics.

The collection utilizes materials, like braided fibers, wood, ceramic, cement, and various fabrics, in unexpected ways adding to the uniqueness of each design. Navone continues to add to the collection offering plenty of styles, shapes, and colors to outfit just about any patio, porch, or terrace. The latest pieces debuted at Maison&Object in January.

Czech designer Lucie Koldová recently designed an oversized lounge chair for TON that will make its debut at IMM Cologne 2018. Chips is a bold chair with a large backrest made of perforated fabric giving it a visually light feel but a comfortable spot to lean against. Paired with upholstered cushions for additional comfort, Chips was created as part of the Das Haus project, an exhibition displaying ideas of living in the future at IMM Cologne this month.
The base and backrest’s frames are constructed of manually bent wood that results in the back resembling the shape of a Pringles potato chip, hence the chair’s name. Koldová loves working with translucent materials, leading to the stretched black fabric which helps illustrate the soft curves.

The Sunday Lounge chairs give nod to those iconic staples while bringing a contemporary spin to them.
The steel chairs have a laser cut pattern that gives the illusion of woven straps, except these “straps” won’t fray over time and break. These also skip the folding aspect helping to increase the stability and comfort for lounging around, while also giving the seat wider dimensions. The Sunday Lounge comes as a Side Chair and an Armchair. The chairs are made of powder coated steel frames in a wide variety of colors with optional Sunbrella upholstered outdoor cushions.
