There’s a honeymoon stage you go through when you introduce new designs into your home. The early days are spent admiring your shiny new investment, humble-bragging to your house guests about its state-of-the-art technology and all the ways it has been changing your life. But after a while, you might start to notice design flaws, or little things that bother you, realizing that your perfect purchase may not be so perfect after all…
German manufacturer of sinks and faucets BLANCO wants to make this a thing of the past. When the team set out to design its new PANERA™ faucet, they made sure to address the kitchen woes you’ve come to know over time with faucets, like dirty smudges and fingerprints that seem reappear as

It seems particularly ironic my friend who is a technologist and founder of the gastronomical virtual reality experience, Project Nourished, has lived in a Downtown Los Angeles industrial space for the last several years sans kitchen. He told me he’s made it work out of necessity, using a combination of a portable inductive cooktop and a utility sink on wheels. I definitely thought of his past predicament as I helped him move last week to a new place outfitted with a legitimate kitchen, thinking how the challenge of cost of rent versus available space can require sacrifices such as his while living in many of the most dense and expensive cities.
Royal College of Art graduate, Yu Li’s portable kitchen concept Assembly addresses this growing need amongst young professionals struggling to meet the desire to cook against the limitations of space. Li envisions an inductive-technology cooking surface nearly as svelte

KBIS, the Kitchen & Bath Industry Show, just recently wrapped up in Orlando, Florida, and one of the standout displays was the Monolith Inception Kitchen, that was presented by Liebherr Appliances. The luxurious kitchen was designed by Richard T. Anuszkiewicz, of Alt Breeding Schwarz Architects, who based the design’s concept off the word ‘monolithic’, which means ‘formed of a single block of stone,’ as a way to pay homage to the Monolith column refrigeration series.
The design carries the ‘monolithic’ idea throughout with expansive surfaces used both vertically and horizontally. Two Monolith Column refrigerators and two Monolith Column freezers, along with built-in wine fridges and beverage drawers, ensure no one will go hungry or thirsty. This set is housed within a figured fumed eucalyptus fully integrated armoire built by Premier Custom Built Cabinetry. An aged bronze fully integrated refrigeration armoire with leather door pulls adds another layer of

The kitchen design outlook for 2018 has evolved from recent years in notable ways and offers a virtual basket of both mature and fresh design goodies for everyone. The vernacular of kitchen design in 2018 puts the spotlight on an elevated aesthetic, promotes well being, encourages food prep efficiencies and as a result, the kitchen becomes THE room in the home where all five senses reside. It’s a magnet for physical and emotional nourishment. Let’s look at what’s happening in the kitchen design-wise.
Neutral finishes (colors) for cabinetry historically reign supreme, but this year there’s a twist – actually more

The collaboration for Reform will benefit a New York charity founded by Bengtsson’s husband, chef and entrepreneur Claus Meyer – who is also known as cookbook author and co-founder of the groundbreaking world-best restaurant Noma in Copenhagen.
Bengtsson, who was particularly inspired by the eclectic style of the Art Deco era, wanted to design a kitchen that would celebrate unexpected combinations. As such, distinct colors, such as golden brass and soft mauve, were used in combination with the black countertop to reflect Bengtsson’s passion for contrast. The brass, in particular, has been used throughout Bengtsson’s other design projects as a detail to exemplify a sense of luxury and sophistication. The panel colors can be mixed, as they were designed to be, or isolated, with one tone dominating the room. The design is available with or without brass

Most of us have spent hours trying to choose the perfect dining chair or scoured the internet for the most comfortable sofa. (After all, you are reading a design blog right now.) And it makes sense. Your home is your family’s flagship. Prada has its Rem Koolhaas-designed SoHo store, Louis Vuitton has a giant glass concept store in Singapore, and for your family, there is your home. This is the place that conveys your mission and values to the world. It’s also where you unwind and escape from the world… so it may make sense not to leave it all up to chance and consider calling in a professional.
