Valencia-based creative agency <a href="http://masquespacio.com/en/" rel="nofollow noopener external noreferrer" data-wpel-link="external">Masquespacio</a> were hired by Dutch hotel group, <a href="https://www.thestudenthotel.com/" rel="nofollow noopener external noreferrer" data-wpel-link="external">The Student Hotel</a>, to bring their signature colorful aesthetic to a unique project in Barcelona. <a href="https://www.thestudenthotel.com/barcelona/" rel="nofollow noopener external noreferrer" data-wpel-link="external">The Student Hotel Barcelona</a> is a co-living/co-working hybrid and they set out to launch two student-only &#8220;campuses&#8221; in the <a href="https://www.thestudenthotel.com/marina/" rel="nofollow noopener external noreferrer" data-wpel-link="external">Marina</a> and <a href="https://www.thestudenthotel.com/poble-sec/" rel="nofollow noopener external noreferrer" data-wpel-link="external">Poble Sec</a> areas of the city and brought on Masquespacio to design the communal spaces of each.
The Marina Campus resides in four 21,000-square-meter buildings that house 500 rooms, along with tons of communal areas, like quiet study rooms, lounge spaces, gaming zones, swimming pools, seating areas, etc., for the students residing there to enjoy. Doing what they do best, Masquespacio used local materials and selected a bold color palette. The vibrant design merges many styles, including Memphis, industrial, 70s vintage, among others, that result in an eclectic and welcoming feel that will no doubt spark creativity. 4 Shipping Containers Become a Classroom at Bard College

We featured <a href="https://design-milk.com/12-homes-made-from-shipping-containers/" rel="nofollow noopener" data-wpel-link="internal">Maziar Behrooz Architecture&#8217;s shipping container studio</a> several years ago and since then they&#8217;ve become <a href="https://www.mbarchitecture.com/" rel="nofollow noopener external noreferrer" data-wpel-link="external">MB Architecture</a> and have continued on working with shipping containers. One of their latest projects involved designing a media and technology classroom for students at Bard College with a $100,000 grant. Due to the limited resources, they explored stacking two pairs of budget-friendly shipping containers to form the 960-square-foot <a href="https://www.mbarchitecture.com/bard-college-media-lab/" rel="nofollow noopener external noreferrer" data-wpel-link="external">Bard Media Lab</a>.
Another cost saving measure was prefabricating the building off-site in a factory and then delivering it to its tree-surrounded location. It was fully operational in half a day! The Lab will be used by different departments over time so it was important to make the interior flexible for various needs. A large pivoting garage door was installed to allow performances to be held with the main interior space being used as the stage. Windows were placed on the ends to visually enlarge

An Imaginative Kindergarten That Will Make Your Kids Love School

A new <a href="http://shanihay.com/products-range/kindergarten-daycare-complex-wholesale-market-tel-aviv/" rel="nofollow noopener external noreferrer" data-wpel-link="external">kindergarten and daycare complex</a> was recently completed at the former Wholesale Market in Tel Aviv by Yashar Architects. Inside, the complex spans 3,000 square meters of innovative design, bursts of color, and playful vignettes to get the kids excited about school. <a href="http://shanihay.com/" rel="nofollow noopener external noreferrer" data-wpel-link="external">Sarit Shani Hay</a> was behind the inspiring design that had to house six kindergartens for kids aged 3-6 years, and three daycares for babies and toddlers from 3 months to 3 years.
The concept for the design began with the site’s history housing a produce market, hence the reoccurring use of colorful fruits and vegetables. The kindergarten spaces received themes of fruits and veggies, market stalls, and delivery trucks, for imaginative play and learning. Some of the custom-made furniture includes drawers for the kids and padded areas for the toddlers to lounge or read. Photos by Dudi Moskovitz.
