We’ve been asked to honor non-disclosures and embargoes for a multitude of designs – usually products falling under the realm of technology, automotive, or other products following the ebbs and flows of the consumer market. It was called the 1041, a name without any real meaning beyond its archival numerical designation. Nicholas Manville, Senior Vice President of Design and Merchandising at Georg Jensen will do a commendable job of building anticipation about the impending reveal, offering us a tour showcasing the skills

Winter Trend Watch: Cozying Up to Danish Hygge

hygge-table-vignette

Neutral colors, natural materials, and minimal elements define the Danish hygge concept.

Whether or not hygge is here to stay is anyone’s guess, but there can be no doubt that this Danish concept, which includes a contemporary interior design esthetic, is most definitely here. Somewhat nebulous by definition, hygge (pronounced who-guh, and loosely translated from the Danish as ‘cozy’) or hyggelig has Scandinavia written all over it—which is to say, it endorses restraint, tranquility, and community, and, as such, is wholly inviting to those of us inhabiting a considerably less tranquil culture. Lately, spreading the word on hygge has become something of a winter design obsession, yielding an endless stream of casually attractive vignettes, replete with chunky blankets, hot cups of cocoa, springs of herbs, and loads of all-around homespun goodness.

Hand applied workmanship and textured layers are essential to hygge, exemplified by casually draped chunky knitted blankets.

Contemporary Farmhouse in Suffolk

contemporary-farmhouse Norm Architects completed Reydon Grove Farm, a contemporary farmhouse at the edge of a working farm in Suffolk, United Kingdom. The single story has a long, thin layout to match the size of the pre-existing barn and dairies on the site. This layout works to emphasize the natural landscape outside. In particular, its mere one story avoids becoming an imposing structure that sticks out in the sprawling farmland. Instead, it uses glass walls and a white interior to disappear. white-light Bright white light pours into the home’s interior and reflects beautifully off the white walls and furnishings. On one side, it meets a hallway that connects to bedrooms. On the other, it fills an open minimalist living space. A white wall and fireplace split the living and cooking spaces with space on both sides for flow back and forth. Outside, this home features a
