With offices going more towards open floor plans that allow employees to collaborate, having pieces of furniture that allow for that is key. It also makes sense to incorporate pieces that can easily be moved around for meetings or for overall growth. Mattias Stenberg has nailed just that with two designs for Offecct that offer workers informal workspaces that can be changed up. First are the On Point powered tables which allow for meetings while also having a central spot for plants, and then the Carry On stools which provide quick additional seating when needed.
The On Point tables are designed to work in office or public spaces or even airports as a way to provide informal workspaces wherever needed. The large tabletop is enough space for up to eight people to work or give plenty of room for just a few. In the center, the On Point table is

The 6,500-square-foot space was renovated by CHA:COL, Inc., who were tasked with bringing the industrial building up to code. In order to house the young company, the firm had to design workspace for 30 animators, 6 producers with 4 private offices, 3 editing suites, 2 conference rooms, 3 bathrooms, an empty shooting space for green screen work, a kitchen, and lounge.
The layout was designed to include a central area, dubbed The Pit, that’s used for working, eating, having a meeting, or just taking a break. It was designed out of laminated plywood and features a bar-type counter, bleacher seating, and a display area. Surrounding The Pit is a loop left open for circulation to the surrounding areas. Instead of masking the industrial nature of

As with all UHURU designs, they’ve considered every last detail, from the workstation’s proportions to the materials it’s made from, to offer the utmost functionality without sacrificing good design.
The MINIM RISE SIT|STAND is outfitted with a powerful electronic lift system that’s built right into the sturdy steel base so it’s hidden away from view. It can even come with both workstations set at a fixed height, both with the SIT|STAND option, or one of each, depending on the employees’ preferences. To customize it further, you can select from five different tabletop options, three steel base finishes, and three different colors of felt for the divider. Besides the customizable look of it, there are also options to choose what kind of integrated power outlets are preferred.

Since the spaces are long and narrow, they designed the layout into three sections lengthwise with pathways in between. Glass partition walls were used to allow light to penetrate the entire space. The office is designed to house game creators, who the company considers “highly qualified artisans”, therefore, they wanted a space that reflected that.
Overall, the actual workspace areas have a minimalist feel, while the common spaces have more personality. The simplicity is meant to give employees a blank canvas as a start for brainstorming sessions. They also focused on designing an environment that would spark creativity by including areas like a gallery, fireplace, writing desks, music, a library, lounge chairs, a workbench, recording tools, and a central seating area, to name a few. If you’ve ever worked in an office or had to seek office furniture out to purchase, you probably remember just how generic (and boring) the choices can be. Many brands just focus on the utilitarian aspect of contract furniture but luckily there are companies like Heartwork that are changing the game.
The New York based Heartwork launched in 2012 filling a void in the workplace for pieces that were not only functional, but designed well and available in colors other than beige and light gray. The products are made from fully welded, commercial grade 18 gauge steel that brings industrial durability, and combined with their powder coated finishes in happy colors, you have a collection of furniture that would make it impossible to be sad while working. From desks, lockers, file cabinets, credenzas, shelves, storage cabinets, chairs, and accessories, Heartwork designs and makes it all, leaving no excuses for inefficient

Department stores have been closing up shop as people spend more money online than in actual stores, leaving abandoned buildings ready for the taking. Instead of these empty shells going to waste, people are going in and converting them, like Retail Design Collaborative and their sister company, Studio One Eleven. They recently reimagined a vacant Nordstrom Rack in Long Beach, California, into the RDC-S111 Urban Office, a creative workspace that also performs as a hub for community engagement.
The vacant space offered up 34,100 square feet of potential for the two architectural firms that had previously inhabited the 21st and 22nd floors of a high rise. Longing to be better connected to the community, they set out to design the empty department store and create an “Urban Gallery,” a flexible and evolving workshop. The flexible layout affords the companies to work within a large, open space, with three raised sections

To mark Cassina’s 90th anniversary, the company enlisted its Art Director, architect and designer Patricia Urquiola, to renovate their historic headquarters in Meda, Italy. The project included restoring the courtyard entrance and creating a new communal area to welcome guests, while breathing new life into these special headquarters.
The ‘Galleria’ is for employees and guests alike and now boasts a soothing palette of greens and blues, along with the installation of Charlotte Perriand and Pierre Jeanneret’s futuristic Refuge Tonneau. The mobile shelter was originally designed in 1938 and was recreated in 2012 by Cassina, who closely studied the original sketches and documents to make it a reality. The structure was installed so people can enjoy a quiet moment during their work day. The light-filled room is now home to a massive wall of plants that add warmth and color to an overall cold space.
