Located in West Hollywood’s thriving Design District, the La Peer Hotel is a new boutique Kimpton Hotel that takes inspiration from its neighborhood’s emphasis on design, art and style. Designed by Gulla Jónsdóttir, it also serves as the designer’s studio gallery on the ground floor where guests can check out and purchase the bespoke art and furniture found throughout the hotel.
Jónsdóttir used earth tones and natural materials like concrete and leather walls, white oak wood flooring, plaster walls, liquid surfaces, and bronze columns to create this urban retreat. Custom-made furniture and fixtures, like the hanging lanterns, six-foot round light sconces, curved brass ceiling details, and a leather cocoon wall add to the hotel’s unique sense of space. The 105-room hotel features guest rooms with white oak herringbone wood floors, free-standing tubs, living room spaces, high ceilings, and Jónsdóttir’s own furniture collection “Heimaland” in the penthouse suite. Guests can
indoor and outdoor dining spaces with Chef Casey Lane’s Italian/Mediterranean cuisine at the hotel’s restaurant Viale Dei Romani. Being in the Design District of Los Angeles, art is a key theme at the La Peer Hotel. Jónsdóttir’s own colleagues and friends contributed paintings, photography and poetry to hotel, including an elevator design by Kahori Maki and a courtyard installation by graffiti artist Retna and artist Guerin Swing.
